Are you looking to build a writing career in a way that embraces and enhances your vision and authentic lifestyle?
This is an educational platform for writers—especially genre fiction writers—who are planning to self-publish or have already self published and are looking for the next steps to take in their path. Emergence offers advice, experience, and community built around an ethical frame of solidarity, anti-capitalism, equity, and kindness. The information I offer in Emergence is designed for writers with different goals and aspirations for their writing practice and career than just chasing success as defined by a capitalist outlook.
What do I mean by this? Plain language: this is how I’m building my writing career, in alignment with the values that are important to me, especially in this era of late-stage capitalism. I advocate slow and sustainable career and skill growth, working with venues and programs that feel ethically in tune with what you believe, and doing as much as possible with as little resource expenditure as you can. The classes in Emergence are designed around the information I’ve amassed as an author: my experience is centered around my identity as queer, disabled, poor/working class, in a femme-presenting body.
Don’t think that I’m stiff, prescriptive, or lacking a sense of humor, though. I’m a goofball with a strong DIY ethic and I’m unafraid to make fun of myself or enthusiastically cheer you on. Most importantly, I want the information I’m sharing to be accessible, which is why I’ve decided to offer it for FREE. Often we say “you get what you pay for” but in this case I hope that the teaching and mentoring will be of far more value than you’ve paid! Offering it for free also allows me to add to the curriculum at my own speed, which is ruled over by my limited energy as a disabled person.
If you’re ready to join, I’m excited to have you!
