Who I am:
I’m Christiane Knight [she/they] and I’m queer, disabled, poor/working class, in a femme-presenting body. I live right outside the city of Baltimore, MD, near the Chesapeake Bay, on the ancestral and unceded lands of the Susquehannock and Piscataway tribes. I’m an author and poet, concentrating on contemporary fantasy and speculative fiction that centers on stories about hope and community. I offer advice, experience, and community built around an ethical frame of solidarity, anti-capitalism, equity, and kindness through my blog posts, appearances, and lessons in Emergence.
What you can expect from me:
- Honesty. Probably more than you’re comfortable with sometimes, because I’m not afraid to share the realities of my life and my calling.
- Support. If you’re part of my community, I’ll do my best to help you out, share my experiences freely, and lift you up.
- Transparency. I share my numbers, my successes and failures, my systems, and the bad days along with the good ones.
- Humor, because I’m a goofball and laughing is important.
- I will never use AI in my teachings or products.
What I require from you in return:
- To understand your privileges and desire to use them to benefit others with less privilege.
- Refusal to use and promote AI in the generation of your writing, covers, and advertising. This is non-negotiable.
- Willingness to help others than come after you; community-building includes mentorship and support.
- Alignment with my basic values: you’re not going to be a good fit if you don’t support the rights of others, including but not limited to Black and brown folk, LGBTQIA2S+, immigrants, disabled and chronically ill folk, and poor folk. If you approve of fascist, totalitarian policies and the promotion of genocide and birtherism, you don’t belong here.
- Honesty. We can’t work together if you won’t be honest with me and—most importantly—yourself.
Does that seem like a lot? I want to meet you as an equal, someone that I’d be proud to call a colleague. We can’t do that if our values don’t align, especially when it comes to human rights.
